An open-air lesson in sustainable agriculture.

09.05.2018

We meet again with students from the Professional High School of Agriculture “Nikola Pushkarov” from the town of Popovo. Eight-graders from the school, together with their teacher Mrs Penka Ivanona, visited us on 9th May in Nadarevo. They were welcomed by representatives of Botanica Life Foundation and by the mayor of Nadarevo, Mr Mehmed Mehmedov. The mayor expressed his appreciation and support for the events and trainings held by the Foundation.

Mrs Galina Pencheva and the agronomist of Botanica Mr Petar Petrov speaking in front of the students.

The mayor of Nadarevo, Mr Mehmed Mehmehov, addressing the students.

Mrs Galina Pencheva – a teacher of sustainable and ecological agriculture at the Foundation – made a presentation for the students. She talked about the role of the soil and its natural enrichment without chemicals and pesticides, mulching with hey, the sustainable use of water, the combining of different cultures for better results and other good practices for sustainable agriculture. The students observed how to use nettle when planting tomatoes in order to help their growth and protect them from pests. Not only did the students listen with great attention, but they also rolled up their sleeves and did some work in the field. With their help we planted the beddings with peppers, courgettes and cabbage.

We thank our friends for the great work they did and the wonderful afternoon spent together. It was a pleasure for us to see the enthusiasm and interest with which the students were absorbing the information, asking questions and actively taking part in the field activities.

We were pleased to hear that students from the school’s club, called "We Can Present", who visited us earlier this Spring, have made it to the second round  of the international competition "The Earth: Known and Unknown" in the town of Sandanski and got the prestigious fourth place. The presentation with which they entered the competition reflects the work of Botanica Life Foundation in the area of sustainable agriculture. We congratulate them for their achievement and wish them future success.
