A small lake will help our students learn about wildlife and biodiversity.
12.03.2018
Alongside the creation of our vegetable and fruit production gardens, we set out to create a small lake in tune with the principles of natural garden design.

In the beginning of April we met in Nadarevo with Mr Fritz Wassmann, from Switzerland, who is working in the fields of botany, garden and lake design, geology, ecology and renewable energy. For years he has been a lecturer and a founder of courses on several of those topics. He is an expert and consultant in the subject of green buildings in cities and urbanized areas. He specializes in planning and realization of rooftop gardens in combination with solar systems for maximum energy efficiency.
We were strongly impressed with the vast knowledge and diversity of interests of our gest, and we feel privileged to have someone with such expertise creating the lake that will be on the grounds of Botanica Life foundation.

In the hot spring day we walked the fields of the foundation with our gest and with Dr Ivelina Radilova, the landscape architect who designed the gardens of Botanica Life. Together we discussed both the preparations for the construction of the lake, as well as organizing and planting of the production field, where there are already over 300 fruit trees, and seedlings are prepared in the greenhouse for the crops to be planted.

The lake will undoubtedly be a beautiful place to relax, but will also act as a backup reservoir to the irrigation system of the production field. In addition, it will be planned and built to become a biotope and a natural habitat for local plant and animal species. Last but not least, the lake will present an opportunity for our students to observe wild life and learn about its importance for natural gardens.
We are looking forward to the next visit of Mr Wassmann, this time with his wife, Mrs Kaori Vassmann-Takigawa, who is an ecologist and an expert on renewable energy. Their arrival is scheduled for the beginning of May, when the construction of the lake will begin.

We use this opportunity to invite those wishing to join as volunteers to build the lake and plant the plant species in the water and on the shore. If you want to learn how to make a garden lake and are curious how to plant aquatic plants, sign up for a volunteer and draw on Mr Wassmann's rich experience. Follow us on Facebook for more information and the exact dates of the event.

We would like to thank Barbara and Kurt Gehring from Switzerland who made possible the visit of Mr Wassmann to Nadarevo.
