We rolled up our sleeves and went to the field

01.05.2017

So, the long-awaited day finally came! We began the formation of the gardens in the village of Nadarevo where we will be having our practical training in sustainable agriculture with the children and young people of Botanica Life. We laid out the field, marked the borders, drilled the holes, and we are already putting up the fence, made of wooden acacia poles. What a view! What a horizon! The perimeter of the garden area is around 1500 meters (one kilometer and a half), and when you stand at one end of the field, you can barely see the other in the distance. Your breath is taken at the thought of the work that lays ahead. To build the lanes, to form the vegetable beds, the orchards, to put up the glasshouse, to prepare the spaces for storage and rest, to bring in water for the irrigation system, to plant the bushes and the trees….it is a long list.

The beginning of the fieldwork coincided with the visit to Nadarevo of our friends from Worldwide Orphans Foundation (WWO) and Worldwide Orphans Foundation Bulgaria. We talked about the past – how we began – but we also talked about the future – where we are going. Mrs Rositsa Petrova called what we are doing “one of the most meaningful social projects that I have heard of in recent years”, while Mrs Lois Kam Heymann was so kind to offer to write a book about the activities of Botanica Life Foundation in Nadarevo. She was impressed with the goals, the vision and the scope of our activities and she offered to popularize our work widely.

We thank all those who gave us strength to make a start. We also thank all of you who will help us continue! In less than a year, our training and production gardens will be thriving with life. If you would like to walk the walk with us until we get there, e-mail us on info@botanicalife.org or contact us through our facebook page. Become a volunteer with us!
